Download the AWWA Free Water Audit Software (V6.0)

The new version of the AWWA Free Water Audit Software (v6.0 2020) is now available. This software is the industry standard tool for conducting the annual water audit and using the results to guide a program for cost-effective water loss control and revenue recovery. It first came out nearly 15 years ago, and is now used throughout North America and in other countries around the world.

Version 6 represents a major evolution of this tool – incorporating over 1,000 improvements from user-provided comments. Key upgrades include a new Interactive Data Grading feature; a new Performance Indicator Dashboard providing more visibility into how well you are doing and how you can improve; and a streamlined user experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our team is always ready for a good water loss question -- but if you have a question that usually means that someone else is wondering the same thing. As we receive questions from participants, we'll post them here in our FAQs.

  • What staff should I include in this program?
We always encourage that at least one representative from supply metering, customer metering, billing/finance, and management be engaged in this process.
  • I heard there is a new version of the AWWA Water Audit Software coming out. Is that true?
It is indeed and we are pretty excited about it. Version 6.0 of the AWWA Water Audit Software is scheduled to be released on December 4, 2020 to coincide with World Water Loss Day; however, participants of this program will get an early peek of the new tool to use in preparation of our December work sessions.
  • I track my leakage estimates. Where does that information fo in the Water Audit?
Good on you for tracking your leakage -- keep it up; however; those volumes do not go into the water audit for 2 reasons that we'll discuss further: 1) they are not an 'authorized consumption' so they would not go under unbilled unmetered consumption, and 2) that is precisely one of the outputs the software is desinged to calculate through the water balance approach.
  • What kind of supporting documentation do I need to collect and what if I don't have all of it?
The supporting documentation is necessary to validate your water audit -- both to ensure the information is being input correctly and, in part, to help understand how reliable the data is. A detailed list of the data request is provided on the resources page. A quick reference list is shown here:
  • What is a Level 1 Water Audit Validation?
Per the Water Research Foundation 5057; Level 1 Water Audit Validation Guidance Manual, a water audit validation is the process of examining water audit inputs in order to 1) Identify and appropriately correct for inaccuracies in water audit data and applicationof methodology, and 2) Evaluate and communicate the uncertainty inherent in water audit data.
